Meet our Summer Interns

Here at Whyte and Mackay we’ve been lucky enough to be joined by a brilliant group of interns over the summer.

As our Internship Programme draws to a close, we’d like to take a moment to spotlight some of our talented interns who shared their thoughts on their experience this summer in Whyte & Mackay so far:

“As the Sustainability and Communications Intern within the marketing department at Whyte and Mackay, I wasn’t sure what to expect prior to the summer. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and the experiences I’ve had in this role; from various workshops expanding my knowledge to opportunities to work and network with people from all aspects of the business.

A personal highlight of mine was the trip to London with the marketing team where we got to see the brands in action at the International Spirits Awards and the Flor De Cana ‘Sustainable Cocktail Challenge’. It has also allowed me to use my knowledge and skills developed through my geography degree and apply it to relevant projects. My dissertation sparked interest in the importance of sustainability in the food and drinks industry. Whyte and Mackay share this understanding of the importance of protecting the environment and I am excited to see where this opportunity takes me.”

“If I could sum up my internship at Whyte and Mackay in two words, it would be ‘rewarding’ and ‘engaging’. I’ve always felt like a valued member of the company by being invited to various training sessions, workshops, and educational whisky sessions.

Most importantly, everyone has been incredibly welcoming, patient, and warm. I would highly encourage anyone that is considering working for Whyte and Mackay to go for it!”

Anna Grahn, Distribution Intern

"I’ve gained so much out of my time at Whyte & Mackay as a People Development Intern. I have had the chance to work with both internal and external stakeholders and the support I have felt from my fellow interns all the way up to senior management has made this experience all the more rewarding.

During my time with the company, I have had the opportunity to travel to distilleries and our bottling plant as well as engage in development sessions such as Learning and Development workshops, a bounce-back resilience session, and learning how to best enjoy our amazing brand portfolio. Whyte & Mackay has inspired me to pursue a career in the drinks industry and I am excited to take what I have learned and continue developing my skills in the future."

“On finishing my accounting and finance degree this summer, I was unsure as to what my next step would be. Without any real-life experience in a professional working environment, the direction of my finance career was unclear.

The Whyte and Mackay internship appeared to be extensive, and this is what encouraged me to apply. I can safely say since joining Whyte and Mackay’s finance department as their financial control intern, this was exactly the case.

This opportunity has allowed me to develop and expand both my accounting and financial knowledge and enable me to apply it to tasks set by the internal finance department. I have been embraced as part of the team and have been involved in projects that have made an impact on the department’s output.

Aside from financial skills, I have also been able to develop my sense of purpose within a professional working environment. I couldn’t be more grateful to the team for giving me this opportunity and I am also thrilled that I will be joining Whyte & Mackay as a Graduate Financial Analyst, at the end of my internship.”

"Working with Whyte and Mackay for my placement has allowed me to apply what I have been taught at university to real-life applications, it has been a great experience!"

Hannah Linden, Industrial Placement

"The past few months working as a Legal Intern at Whyte & Mackay have been incredible. Working in the whisky industry has provided me with a fresh insight into a sector I did not know much about. Being able to work so closely with a leading producer like Whyte & Mackay has allowed me to understand the internal workings and everyday activities of the whisky giant. Being here over the whole summer means I've been able to gain in-depth knowledge of the work the Legal team at Whyte & Mackay does. I’ve also been able to make friends and enjoy social events. From whisky tasting to race nights, the events that Whyte & Mackay put on are a real highlight! I would recommend working at Whyte & Mackay to anyone. The internship is a great experience and a fantastic opportunity to work at an excellent company!"

Jamie Campbell, Focus Improvement Intern

‘A great experience. I have really enjoyed the exposure I’ve had to the workings of my team and global markets which has been facilitated by team leaders. I have also loved learning about the whisky-making process and W&M’s brands through the events W&M put on for all the interns’.
