At Whyte and Mackay, we’re committed to investing in our planet and continuing to take steps to be a more sustainable business.
This commitment is at the heart of our Green Print, our Whyte and Mackay sustainability strategy, which sets us on the journey to a more sustainable future for whisky making.
Ahead of Earth Day 2023, we wanted to take the opportunity to share some of the exciting projects we're working on with you so that you can learn more about how we're working to support a greener whisky industry.
Whyte and Mackay have partnered with the University of Hertfordshire and Hempcrete to use Jura Distillery as a test site for their carbon-absorbing paint.
As well as being carbon-absorbing, the paint is also self-repairing, reducing the need for repairs and maintenance, and the CO2 associated with this.
The project will use a test site on the distillery for the paint, which will look like normal lime-wash, allowing the research team to measure the effectiveness of the paint, paving the way for future usage.

Earlier this year we celebrated The Dalmore becoming our first distillery to make the move towards a Zero Waste to Landfill approach.
Site-wide recycling has been in place for a number of years, and with the addition of a new skip taking residual waste for energy recovery, The Dalmore Distillery now holds Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) status.
Whyte and Mackay are working in collaboration with the Fuel Change Challenge programme, a unique opportunity that tasks the next generation of business leaders to find solutions that contribute to a positive transition to net zero.

We're excited to announce that as of January this year, Whyte and Mackay sites are now home to 30 Electric Vehicle Charging Points.
We started this move towards electric vehicles in 2021 and we're delighted that we've been able to build on this further drastically increasing our electric charging capability for employees and visitors.
Our Electric Vehicle Charging Points are powered by carbon-neutral electricity and have saved over 11,000kg in carbon emissions so far. That's the equivalent emitted from driving a gasoline-powered vehicle over 28,000 miles - that's more than it would take to travel the circumference of the globe!
The projects we've shared are just a few examples of the exciting work we're doing to work towards a sustainable future at Whyte and Mackay. You can read more about Sustainability here.
